Violet Hill Ranch

Our Suffolks

This spring, 7 acres of the farm were sectioned off and converted to pasture. In July, fencing was put in, we got a special delivery all the way from Washington state.

My dad, Steve, has been the driving force behind this project. After a few years of talking about it, our shared dream is coming true! He’s reliving his glory days of showing Suffolks back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and having his knowledge of breed character, conformation, and cutability is priceless.

Honest, Quality Care

Our philosophy is simple: raise lamb as honestly as possible. That means no added hormones, no antibiotics, and exceptional care from day one.

If all goes according to plan, fresh-cut, farm-raised lamb will be available for purchase and featured directly on our menu by mid-summer 2027!

From Washington to the Farm

Currently, 14 of our foundation brood ewes are out on pasture with our herd ram as we prepare for lambing season. To ensure our ewes are in peak physical condition to carry healthy twins or triplets, we are actively "flushing" them:

  • Nutritional Boost: As late-summer pasture grass turns tough and loses its natural protein and energy density, we supplement their grazing with whole corn twice a day.

  • Essential Minerals: Ewes have free-choice access to mineral to nibble whenever they need.

  • Prenatal Preparation: Think of this regimen as a high-energy, high-protein prenatal diet - giving our ewes the nutritional boost needed for optimal breeding success.
